During the Early and Middle Cambrian reef like structures built by Archeaocyathids, a sponge-like animal with a hard calicium carbonate double layered shell can be found in California, Nevada, Labarador, Germany, Siberia, and Australia. By the Late Cambrian the Archeaocyathids go exticnt and stromatolite structures are common (New York).
