Modern uses for Silurian Reefs

Hartung Park is is a joint City of Milwaukee and City of Wauwatosa Park Carbonate rock of the Racine Formationwas quarried from this site from 1910 to 1961. The quarry was over 100 feet deep and approximately 3 millin tons of rock was quarried here. The quarry became a dump in the 1960's and in 2005 was converted into a park.
